October

About the Artwork

I wanted to infuse just a tad of Halloween into Miss October. Hence the exotic headdress made of crow feathers and complete with spiderwebs and spider!

This one is a bit more fantastical that some of the others in the series, but I thought it appropriate for Halloween. She’s got kind of a witch vibe going on, I think.

November is the last up of the series, and then the calendar will be made available!

September

About the Artwork

A carefree and radiant Miss September enjoys the freshly fallen leaves of autumn.

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. I was born in Vermont, where the mountains become varying shades of golds and reds right around the September timeframe. It’s truly spectacular! And it’s my birthday month, so I had to paint something near and dear to my heart. Enjoying the wonderousness of nature!

I’m almost done with my Calendar Gals series now. Just a few more months to go, then I plan on getting to work on more fantasy and sci-fi illustrations again. These calendar portraits have been dominating my portfolio all year. So, I’ve been yearning for a bit more time for some more creativity! However, if you like these Calendar Gals, have no fear – I’ll always intersperse some portraits like this into my portfolio occasionally!

August

About the Artwork

Miss August is a little bit punk and all about the attitude! Or character. She’s got plenty of both! And she’s totally on trend for the fall 2017 fashions, which is obviously also super important.

I’m just about to get started on Miss September and hopefully catch up with these!

This is the first painting where I’ve painted some of it in PaintstormStudio, a newish digital painting program. I really loved the realistic paint strokes and blending capabilities! It felt like real paint! You can bet I’ll be using it more and more in my work.

I’ve been pretty full up on commissions and helping out my wonderful hubby with illustrations and promotional images for his books (he’s an indie author – you can check out his website here: http://www.josephjohnfiction.com). Not that I’m complaining. Hoping I’ll be able to share some of those commissions from earlier this year with you guys soon!

July

About the Artwork

The calendar gal for July trails her fingers through the cool waters as she wades through a lake.

It’s been a hot summer here in Italy, so you’ll just have to excuse me for all these summer illustrations with cool water in them! ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m patiently waiting for autumn, my favorite season. Should be fun to play with the earth tones for the fall portraits!

June

About the Artwork

The calendar gal for June was inspired a bit by my recent 15 year anniversary cruise to Greece. The colors of the sea were just beautiful!

What I wouldn’t give for a few minutes every day in that very spot. How amazing would that stress relief be?!

Aside from the cruise, I’ve been busy with a bunch of commissions lately for a Role-Playing Game company. Looking forward to sharing those once they’re officially released!
