February

About the Artwork

February was, alas, not finished in time for Valentine’s Day. Which would’ve made much more sense than releasing it at the end of February. Alas, c’est la vie!

I had fun designing those heart-shaped glasses, and they only took me painting them about 8 times before they finally looked right on her. But I’m very happy with how they turned out. I also love the tones and colors of this one and think they’re very appropriate for February and Valentine’s — what with all the roses and pinks and peaches.

This painting will be a part of a calendar that I’ll be putting together around the end of 2017, for 2018. Be sure to join my mailing list or follow me on your favorite social media to see more, and to find the calendar when it comes out!

Lingering

About the Artwork

Lingering was a ton of fun. I really enjoyed the colors I was working with, and am very happy with how the textures came out.

She’s either a satyr (part human, part goat) or a demoness, your choice. I never fully determined which she is in the process of the painting… I kept wavering back and forth. But whichever she is, she’s one of those deadly beautiful fantasy chics that you just don’t want to mess with.

Critical Error

About the Artwork

Critical Error – the evolution of this painting was pretty interesting. It started out as practice for painting planets, but I wanted to add a figure. She was originally going to have an organic life form over her mouth helping her breathe while she floated through space, but I eventually decided to save that idea for another painting with a darker background. So it became the tragedy that it is. Broken helmet, eyes freezing over, trying to get in one shot for who knows what reason before she either succumbs to the harshness of space or gets picked up by a spacecraft that’s perhaps just out of the frame. Who knows. Insert your own story here. I’d love to hear what you come up with!

January

About the Artwork

January is the second installment of what will end up being a calendar of gals. I got such an overwhelmingly positive response to “December” that I decided to make a calendar of portraits. Each month will somehow fit that month. So, much like December was a girl playing in the freshly fallen snow, January is all about curling up beside a warm fire. Because, by January, the novelty of the snow has worn off and all you want to do is be warm again.

Or maybe you’re like me, and you like the winter specifically because of how wonderful it feels to warm up by a fire. Or curl up in a nice, fuzzy blanket. With a cup of coffee or tea or hot chocolate by your side, of course. The blues and reds in this painting are all about this juxtaposition of cold and warmth.

The calendar will be available for purchase at the end of 2017, when I finish up the monthly portraits. I’ll be sure to let you all know when it comes out. So, if you’re not subscribed to my mailing list, be sure to do so now!

December

About the Artwork

December was a break from all my studies to help get me in the Holiday spirit! I sat here and painted this gal’s portrait while listening to my very wide array of Christmas songs. Usually belting the lyrics out along with them, of course. The only way to listen to Christmas carols.

She will be a part of a calendar that will come out at the end of 2017 (for 2018). Each girl will represent the month in some way or another. Check out the other portraits of the calendar girls series!
