Daily Painting #14 – Oryx

“He slides off into half-sleep and dreams of Oryx, floating on her back in a swimming pool, wearing an outfit that appears to be made of delicate white tissue-paper petals. They spread out around her, expanding and contracting like the valves of a jellyfish.” — Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood (an amazing series)

I had to give myself extra time for this one due to the line art. Also, the pool in the book was apparently tinted pink. Obviously I didn’t do that here, for color harmony reasons.

Daily Painting #13 – Light Floats

“There is a moment in every dawn when light floats, there is the possibility of magic. Creation holds its breath.”

The above quote — and inspiration for today’s painting — comes from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams.

I really need practice on landscapes, so I’m trying to fit a few of those in here and there.

Digital Painting #12 – By a Thousand Cuts

“It is a death of the soul by a thousand cuts, and the falling skies are merely the laughter of the executioner going about his business.”

The above quote — and inspiration for today’s painting — comes from The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, by Claire North. Another amazing book! And truly, one of my favorite quotes from a book ever. So poetic!

Also, one of my favorites of the daily paintings thus far.

The apocalyptic meteor shower is both the death by a thousand cuts as well as the falling skies.
