Holy Diver

About the Artwork

Holy Diver is a study which I also used as a tutorial on perspective and story (which I’ll post at the bottom of this page in a few days). Originally, this quote from Douglas Adams inspired me: “The silent thunders of the deep.”

However, while coming up with a layout for this, I was going back and forth between putting sharks and a diver there in front of the creature. I knew I wanted something there to showcase how big this guy truly is. My husband saw the tiny diver I’d put in my thumbnail and started singing the song “Holy Diver” by Dio. Immediately inspired, I decided to make the diver be doing some sort of underwater exorcism against what I can only assume is some kind of demonic beast-dragon-leviathan-eel-thing.

So, a big thanks to my amazing hubby for some inspiration for the story behind this one!

I’m going with a new layout for these posts. The image is bigger! The closeups are bigger and closer-up! And right here, without needing to go to the gallery to see them! Also, if there’s a tutorial/video associated with it, that’ll be at the bottom. Sometimes those get posted a few days later than the rest, so be sure to check back or subscribe to my YouTube channel.
