About the Artwork

‘Dragonscale’ is a fan art painting of a Joe Hill novel called “The Fireman.” If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it! Joe Hill is becoming every bit the master of horror that his father is (Stephen King).

This novel is a post-apocalyptic novel about a disease that spreads across the Earth called Dragonscale. It sometimes causes people to essentially spontaneously combust. It was pretty amazing. This painting was inspired by the first character in the book that we run across, who catches fire from the inside out in a playground at a school. On some people, the ‘scale looks beautiful. But on this poor guy, I chose to have it look more like its moniker and look essentially like glowing embers/scales.

It was incredibly fun to do, and I’m really enjoying this rough, almost scribbly style.

On another note, I’ve been doing a lot of studies lately. I’m trying to only put the best up on my website to keep my portfolio high quality, but you can view all of my paintings on my DeviantArt account.
